Default Bad strut?

Ok, so I just lowered my car.

I'm running re-valved Bilsteins in the rear and SLP Bilsteins for use with their lowering springs up front. Now before I get bitched out by Sam(lol) I've read people getting away with this. They're not the "right" struts people have made 'em work.

I hear this clunking noise comming from the left front. It sounds like the strut is shot...that deep clunk over every decent sized bump BUT the car doesn't handle bad, doesn't bounce, doesn't feel any different than the other side if you lean on the car and push down on it. It doesn't feel like it bottoms out when you hit a big bump(at least I don't think, since it makes noise sometimes I "think" it hits the bumps hard).

Anything else it could be? Like I said the car handles very well and "feels" good but that noise has me stumped. Sounds like a bad strut but certainly doesn't feel like it.

Thanks guys!

You probably didn't get the top nut on the shock tight enough and it's "clunking" as it gets slack in it over bumps. Just a guess.

Yeah check that top shock nut and any others you can find, like the four shock tower bolts, the lower shock bolts, the knuckle and LCA bolts. Too bad the shock has to come out to check the top nut.

Yeah I don't feel like dropping the assembly lol

It's not bad...and would I "have" to do it?(just asking, I'm gonna end up doing it anyway)

Couldn't it be a mount?

The more I think about it I might not have tightened the sway bar stuff tight enough. If that's flopping around it'll sure make that noise.

Trackbird, as a side note, when do you know when the top nut is tight enough?

My shocks or springs didn't come with any directions (or anything good) so when I assembled the shocks and springs, I put the nut at about the same depth and then uncompressed the springs....did I do it wrong?

If I have to tighten it some more, the bilstein directions did say that the top nut is to be used only once does it matter if I tighten it some more?
