Default Help removing wheel bearing...

I removed the 4 bolts but I cant seem to hammer the damm thing off. Is there something else holding the bearing to the spindle? I even used a jack and rested the bearing against it trying to add some weight to it to press it off.

Check with Trackbird here or over on frrax.com He just did that and made some comments on getting them out, but I can't remember what he said.

That they didn't come out.....

I tried a 5 lb slide hammer and it wouldn't budge. I'm going to order new spindles and bearings, paint one, anti sieze the other and change them out. Then, I'll press out the old ones and deal with that. I just don't want to destroy something on a daily driver or bend the spindle from pulling/hammering on it (they seem fragile, but I'm not sure how fragile).

So, I've not done it yet, but I'm 3 tries in and no luck. Mine are stuck, the bearing fits the spindle very tightly, and mine has some rust in there that is causing it to stick.

mine is pretty much stuck too, I'm lost as to how to get it apart. I might try to get a torch and heat up the spindle maybe it will loosen up.

Jesus be careful ... the knuckles on these cars are extremely fragile for the loads they carry.

Kevin ... you never got that bearing out?

In Texas, just a little tug and out they pop ...

Nope. Guess I need to come do it at your house. Maybe it will "pop" in Texas.....

I gave up. I'll buy spindles, bearings and such and deal with it later. Snow tires went on yesterday, so I don't care for a while now.

I may pull the spindles off, get a press and press them through.

Are you guys talking about the front hub assembly? I thought it was supposed to be a sealed assembly and was only held in place with 4 bolts?
Just curious cuz I was about to R/R my front drivers side.

4 bolts and some rust. The bolts are easy, the rust...not so much.

I had to soak mine in PB blaster several times, then use a cold chisel to wedge in there with a hammer. Took a while.

A full can of PB blaster and a broken hammer but still no budging. Luckily I picked up a winter beater so I am no longer in any rush but I was hoping to get some more seat time before the snows comes down.

That sucks. I bent two pry bars and broke two chisels. Its the winter/wet climate I think. I got my car when I was in upstate new york, had it for four winter months before I drove to san diego. Lot of rust buildup down underneath on uncoated stuff, I feel your pain.

Default Finally!

I finally got it off. Soaked the last bit of the can of pb blaster into the bolt holes and about 3 days later gave it 3 good pounds with a 5lb mallet and the focker popped right off. All that for a 15 min reassemble then off to ...

Get that on alot of cars here in the rust belt. Usually put a little heat to them. Then put some rust busting solvent on it warm.
Then air hammer the bearing from the back side w/a flat hammer end.
