Default Upper ball joint replacement

Anyone ever replaced one? to me just by a quick glance it almost looks like you gotta replace the whole upper control arm..or does it come out? I've never really heard of people having problems with them..but mine definitely has some major play in it.

I think your talking about the upper strut mount and yes, if you have play in it, it will need to be replaced. I just replaced mine and the upper for each side was about $45 each if I remember right ? I could be wrong, I replaced everything in the front-end when I put the big brakes on. How many miles on the car ? I'm assuming if both of them are making noise you must have quite a-bit of miles on the vehicle. If it's just one side you probably hit something pretty hard to damage the upper strut mount and should have the front suspension checked out completely.

Oh yea, it won't be cheap to replace those items...

Hope this helps.....

well, its a 99 with 76xxx miles on it. When i bought it 2 years ago it had 52800 miles on it and it was doing the same thing, it has gotten a little worse, but not too much. The rest of the suspension is fine, so i dunno how it came be bad now.

If you bought that way then your were on borrowed time. I'm sure when you take the strut mount out it will be shot !! If your okay with working on your car you could save yourself a bunch of money compared to what a shop will charge to replace even one of those strut mounts.

You must drill the original ball joint out of the a-arm . The new one comes with bolt and nut .The major work is to gain access to the ball joint. NP if you working on your own car.
