First unhook the battery and pull the air bag fuse. Then wait 45 minutes, or it still can go off. Then take the big nut off in the middle, and use a steering wheel puller availble from most auto parts stores to get it off. There will be a yellow cable that you unplug from the air bag. You will need to plug in a 2 ohm resistor there, available from radio shack, to keep from throwing lights.

When you buy the Grant adapter kit, tell them you have a '76 Camaro because they don't sell one for a '99. You will need to grind or machine about 3/32" of metal off the adapter bell to keep it from rubbing on the steering column.

It's not that bad. And the car feels much more nimble with a smaller, lighter steering wheel. I highly recomend doing it. The stock air bag steering wheel weights about 10 lbs; many aftermarket wheels are 2.5 lbs.

I installed a Grant GT wheel in my 94. I had the dash out deleting the HVAC so I just pulled the bulb for the air bag light.
I have relocated the alternator as well so I have no power steering, I still love having that Grant wheel on there.
Its not a big deal at all to install one.

Speaking of steering wheels - I like the wheel my 02 has, but I wish the ring was thicker, more like my 91 Grand Prix (daily driver). Is there anything out there that is like that (still has the airbag and stereo buttons)? Or is there any way to change out the ring but keep the hub?

I agree an after market wheel is best. Now I can do this mod to my ride. Thanks for the helpful information.
