Damn. LOL I guess we could float a few kegs then. You know it is harder for us old farts to keep up although there are those rare times when I can still go the distance, it just takes longer to get over it.

where did you hear this?

i heard that there is a minimum savings of 12-15lbs a car.

A few guys on here put them to the scale. You can probably search on "rotors" and find the threads. The baer fronts are 15.5# each, stock is about 17# each. Not sure on the rear weights, but they were a bit heavier than stock. They are nice rotors, just don't save weight.

I called Rick at Baer and had him weigh them. The ads for the EradiSpeed weight savings is NOT for our cars specifically. Per Baer, the fronts weighed 15.82#'s each vs. 17.5#'s (I measured some last night, not a certified scale, but close for talking purposes). The rears, stock and EradiSpeeds both weigh around 15.x #'s. I can't remember what Rick said nor what the rears weighed when I weighed them.

They are darn nice rotors for those that need the extra stopping power. However, they are not very cost-effective for weight savings for us drag race guys.

BTW, I was one of those interested in the GP on them until I found out how little weight they saved.

I also agree that the Strange brakes

AREN'T FOR STREET DRIVING AT ALL

i helped install both fronts and rears on a 66 Nova and the stopping power according to him was awesome after his...well...fast passes. He's a street racer around here and some are going to know who i'm talking about. But i'll just say he drags the bumper A LOT

The problem with this kit is the rotors...they are EXTREMELY thin and that is why they aren't that heavy, mainly.

Extreme limited street use would be ok...."moderate" street use i wouldn't go there unless you plan to stock the rotors in you garage

No flames intended but the strange brakes are "drag race only" and should only be viewed as such. They cant handle repeated stops when hot, period. They are basically the same set up that alot of (I hate to use this term here)stangs have used for a # of years and they just plain warp if you drive them on the street.Mark Williams(www.markwilliams.com) has had the same basic setup available for over a year and they will tell you its "race only".Otherwise they would have tried to make abs available. They will stop just fine, 1 run at a time. Once a street car reaches a certain point and you are still trying to lose et, its only normal that you have to start making it more of a race car than a street car. Strange brakes are a "race car mod". Its a shame that someone doesn't offer an alternative. We damn sure would spend the money!!!

I heard thorugh the grapvine that Brembo had some rotors over in Europe that would/could work with our needs. Made out of carbon fiber, supposed to weigh 75% less than stock. Don't know about longevety though.

damn! well that sucks

i might have to tell larry not to order them for me. i was expecting more weight savings than that...i rather use the 640 for a new rearend.

More info!

Colonel: Did Jay say what could be done to make the Strange kit more streetable? I would be very interested in doing this mod if so.

True, they're not for everyone but for some they are a GREAT way to shed some static and rotational weight.

seems to be a little confusion about these rotors and their stopping ability...

if you push the brake calipers against the rotors hard enough, they're going to slow the wheels down... the thing is, it takes a lot of friction to slow down a 3500lb car.. the byproduct of this friction is heat.. rotors are heat sinks, the smaller your heat sink is, the less heat it will dissapate.. this means that those skinny little rotors will reach meltdown levels really really fast...

warp?.. no doubt, but that's not the scariest thing... i would be worried about how badly the rotors are going to crack when they get too hot

i wouldn't be worried about using these things for drag racing or driving to the track at all though... but if i had to make an emergency stop, i would pull over for a bit and let the rotors cool down

Colonel would slit his wrist if his car weigh 3500lbs

Colonel,

Did you have a residual valve put in the line to the front brakes? Mine have quite a bit of pad rattle as they back off the rotors almost completely ( virtually no drag, great for drag racing!!!). Strange told me to put a 2 lb residual valve in the line to preload the pads a little and the noise would not be noticeable. This would also give us back the pedal that was lost due to more piston area. Just wondered if you had this issue and if you did anything to resolve it. Thanks.

No, I've not had any problems and the pedal feel is just fine. At the track and on the road they pretty much feel just like stock. You sure yours were bleed properly?
