Default Please answer once and for all about Hals and handling

I`ve checked and searched all the road racing boards and come up with nothing.

I`d like to lower the car a little, get some better handling and still have some decnt weight transfer.

I don`t road race at all and since I got the waverunner don`t go to the track much anymore either...
I`d like to lower the stance of the car and improve its` handling a little over stock.

Will Hals with stock springs do this for me???????

Do Hals set on the tighter setting help the car handle better?????

I can lower the car with Hals.. set them fr handling or track Right??

Or should I just get lowering springs and Bilsteins??

Thanx,
Dan

Since I just got done researching this for about a month let me tell you what I ordered. The Hals all around with LG Motorsports G2 Super Springs all around. The front will drop about 1.5" and the rear will drop about 1 5/8". This puts the car exactly where it should be, according to LG and they have done extensive track and street testing specifically for the late F-Body.

With the Hals, yes, you can adjust them for 12 different settings (front only) and the G2 Springs will lower it for you.

Good luck!

Don't go HALS with stock springs. You will not like it. Get the Eibach Pros, or G2s. I think the G2s are a better choice. In my opinion, the eibachs tend to be a little too soft.

Stiffening up the HALs with the adjustable makes the car "feel" like it handles better, but I have found that it seems to actually increase my understeer (the front pushes more). Keeping the HALs towards the softer side (not all the way) has given me the best results.

You can lower the front of the car with the HAL coilover setup.

I am currently running HALs and Eibach Pro. I will be switching to HALs and the G2 springs for a little stiffer ride, and less bottoming.

Dan, you can use stock springs up front with Hal shocks to lower the car. Do not use the Hal front shocks it makes the car bouncy. Roy has run both springs in front.

In back I would run some different springs. I have a set of rear Eibach sportlines for sale which will SLAM your car, 2" drop for sure. I think that's what Gabe has in back.

Have you seen the front of my car? This is how long you can get with Hals in front (and it's a bit too low)....

Thanx for all the replies...

John I like the way that looks, I like the way the back is higher actually. With that set up (stock springs, lowered with Hals) is the handling going to improve some?

i am on the stock ta springs now. I had the hal drag springs up front for a couple months, but it was just too soft for me. i went road racin at road america a few weeks ago with the only suspension mods being hals and LCA, and SFCs. i was hanging with some of the other cars nicely on the turns, even with the potenza 730s on the car.

will it improve handling- dramtatically. you can lower the front only. right now i can fit about my hand width between my tire and bottom of the wheel well. its a tight fit, but doesnt look too bad.

i have not bottomed out with the stock springs and current height yet. i used to bottom out with the hal springs all the time. it is a good idea to buy some stiffer springs- that way you dont have to set the shocks as tight and you will get a little better weight transfer. right now i still have the settings for the hals at 11? for the front and 8 for rear. its bouncy

heres some pics of me braking from over 100 mph:

next suspension mod will be a sway bar prolly.

heres how low you can go with the hals-

didnt realize how much softer the hal springs were the first time i put them on (and it gets lower once the shock compresses )

they are a great shock- i got them because of the versitility of them- drag race on the weekends, some autox, and daily driving. they can accomodate all three nicely for me.

If you have the HAL's at like 8/12 they will be pretty stiff and the car will be tighter around corners.

I would also do ES poly D ring and endlinks with your front swaybar it made the biggest difference for me for when I would do 80mph lane changes on the highway with the old 98SS.

I would lower the car evenly front/back. Just decide how low you want it.
