Default recommended tire pressure for Z28 :)

I have 245-16 inch Eagle GS-C's in the rear...and Bridgestone Potenzas RE730's up front.
I don't race-- its just a daily driver....thanks!

When I bought the car used, the tire pressure was about 30psi...but after taking it into an allignment/tire install shop the guys set it at 38psi. The mechanic said he usually goes by what the tire sidewall reads...since mine says max. pressure of 44psi, he says he'll usually subtract five-six psi from that amount..hence 38psi
Does this sound about right?

At the dealership i work for, we follow the manufacturers specs printed on the door panel or inside the glove box... It is usually a good rule of thumb to go by the printed max pressure on the tire then subract 8psi.. i keep my tires at 32-34... Works the best.. no abnormal tire wear..

Hey thanks
Anyone else? I live in Hawaii where temps are 87-89 average. Again, I don't race just use it as a daily driver.

The pressure on the tire sidewall is the maximum cold inflation pressure. Generally speaking, you set the tire psi based upon environment temperature & tire loading. 32lbs cold pressure at 89* might turn out to be 24lbs if the temperature were to drop to 35*. 'Course, you don't get that in the islands

If you want to get finicky, set all tires to 30psi cold, and drive a good twenty miles. Use a pyrometer to take temps from the tires' inner/outer contact patch and the center. Three degrees is about 1 psi...so if the center of the tire is 96*, and the edges are both ~90*, your tire is overinflated about 2psi. If the inner/outer temps are different it could be alignment and/or wheel width related. The center temp should be the average of the inner/outer temps.

You want balanced tire temps to indicate all three parts of the tire are working equally as hard. If they are, the wear will at least be equal across the tread.

If you're carrying a lot of additional weight, or for extended high speed driving, you should bump up the pressure as well. The last time I had my A/C recharged, the Goodyear shop inflated my tires to the max setting. I realized it about two weeks later and the center tread was seriously depleted.

My max tire pressure is 52psi, and my vehicle load over the front/rear axle is not significantly different from stock to warrant a change in tire pressure. I am not going to run my tires at (52-8)=44psi unless someone else is funding replacement tires

i would say about 30 all the way around. the less air in the rear will help you hook up better on the street though. i drive with about 32 in the front (potenza 730s) and 28 in the rear (nitto drag radials)

I got over 20K from the GSCs with very even wear. Replaced with RE730s 16K ago, even wear on them also.
In So Cal AND now in SE MO, cold temp @ 34-35psi. I've set all my tires that way since radials came out and always get good wear patterns. Got 60K out of OE Goodyears on the '98 Z34 Monte Carlo using the 34 psi cold proceedure.
