Default Best Tires for racing? stock rims!

Ok i'v red alota posts now.. and can't decide what the heck to do.. i wana get the best tire for racing.. but don't wana spend the big bux on a whole new rim just to get wide rubber on. What would be the best set up on stock rims? i'v seen 315's on stock.. but they rub and so on.. but if they hook up it might be worth it.. or would i be better off gettin 285 drag tires.. this is a daily driver. i havent heard any one say any thing about tires between 285-315.. is there a 295 i could get? thanx for any help

I havent found any 295 or 305 tires... Only 285's and 315's.. Depending on what kind of racing you will be doing... 315's are best for drag... air em down and they hook up awesome... Or a bit of road racing, you're better off with 285's.. I have 285 Potenza RE730's in front, and 315 Drag Radials in the rear... Im planning on putting another set of 285's in the rear so i can do some road racing... But in a straight line, 315's are your best bet

Nitto's are great at the track. Just do long burnout at the track. Cheers.

This from one of my good friends who drives a 01 SS... He has Torque Thrust 2's.. 17x11 in rear with 315's.. Looks awesome...

Do any of you guys ever go on a track?

If you are asking about race tires for roadracing get the Kumho's (either V700 or Ectas) and stay in the 275/40-17 size. That's what the wheels are designed for (even they are a little small). Don't try to squeeze a 315 on it, period. 285's won't be any better either and since they are a taller tire, your gearing will be slighty worse.

Kumho's are good enough for a beginner and very forgiving and inexpensive (nothings cheap). You can drive with them on the street until they start getting thin in the tread. Then you need to change them at the track and run them till corded. Or else make sure you never get caught in the rain.
