I just went to the track recently, and my friend was there too. He has basicly the same car I got. LS1, with same converter and similar mods. Only difference is the tires. He has BFG DR's and I have Nitto's. He can cut consistant 1.7's 60' times and I'm lucky to be getting 1.8's. He drove my car and got the same times. And I know now that the BFG's are better then the Nitto's at the track, and I've heard several people vouch for that. I would like to switch but I hear if you drive the BFG's on the street you can only get like 3k miles out of them. I like the Nittos since I can get anywhere from 10-15k. I want to drive with them on all the time since I do alot of street racing and they hook good on the street too. These are really the only 2 tires I hear people talk about using for DR's.
So my question is is there another tire I might consider that is inbetween these two? Better hooking at the track then the Nitto's, but will last longer then 3k miles on the street? Thx.

let me tell you
BFG's = street racing SUCKS... You NEED to heat them up good for them to be sticky... BFS spin like crazy if they are not heated up first.

I was able to get the Nittos to hold my Thruster Pro 4500 for about 25 passes averaging 1.65's with a best of 1.63. The key to Nittos is to FRY them and then quickly stage before they have a chance to cool down. They only problem with this is they went bald within 50 passes and less than a 1000 miles
I'd think about getting another set of rims for some track tires if you want to be consistent ALL the time, trust me it sucks when you send the money it takes to go fast with these cars and then you can't hook it

Nittos will work just as well as BFGs
Take into consideration burnout time in the box....one car's tires may need to be heated more then the next. The key is not to over do it.
Also in your case, your friend and you have identical cars? What about subframes, etc.
If you have the exact same convertor then it is possible your convertor may flash differently then his does. Try stalling to a different RPM. The problem is probably not the tire because a 1.7 still is not that bad on DRs. It atleast shows you are hooking up decently.
BTW,
You may also need to run your nittos at a different air pressure then he does. Lower your pressure some and see if that works. Different tires require different pressure.
For the record I had mine at 20PSI. Don't go to low because the tire will start to cup and this would hurt more then help!
