Buddy is getting a Mustang with Bobbet rims... I want to know if it would be safe to sell him my used 275/40/17 tires.... They are 17 inch rims and I think his sidewall is already 40.
What is the smallest rim width wise that I can put this tire on?

Personally i wouldnt put 275's on anything less than a 9 inch rim.. althought im sure they will fit possibly on an 8 inch rim. I have 315's on my stock SS wheels.. they fit.. but stick out a lot. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

Not to say you can't, I just wouldn't

I don't want to go slapping them on a smaller rim if it is not safe, I'll never hear the end of it. It's just that I hear of people putting tires made for a 11 inch rim on a 10.5 inch rim and all kinds of different stuff like that.
If it's 8.5 I'll try but I'm not going to risk anything else.

yeah, i have 315's on 9.5's... Its safe.. just not very functional. I cant take hard corners because they rub, and now that ive learned this the hard way, im gunna roast em off and put on 2 more Potenza RE730 285's...
