I'm new here and trying to decide between a camaro or corvette. I plan on doing some occasional road racing. How much do you have to spend on the Camaro before it will beat the vette at a road track and should I start witha Z28 or an SS if I go the Camaro route.

Assuming equal drivers and tires and horsepower, its gonna take a hell of a lot to get the camaro to beat the vette on a road course. The weight advantage and IRS in the rear, along with the lower center of gravity come into play on a road course.
If you just wanna beat a stock vette, put nice racing tires on the fbody and outdrive the other guy <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

My SS with adjustible coil over springs (autoX rates), bilsteins, every suspension mod known to man, and nitto R tires on all four corners feels nothing like my vette. Its a totally different car altogether. My camaro would probably do better in autoX and its hellafun to drive, but it just doesnt have the smooth sportscar handling feel to it. You have to muscle it around.

you can't go wrong with either car based on the fun-factor
the C5 is far superior to any 4th gen F-body on anybody's drawing board...
if you do go for a Camaro, just get a Z28.. you don't really get anything that you need with an SS, it's just an appearence package

The Vette has 4 wheel independent susp, lower center of gravity, better weight distribution, a chassis that is a flat as a pancake, the list goes on and on.
Two AWESOME cars, but just different beasts. I love my SS's but I will get a Vette too.
