Default HELP!! Doing this right now....Caliper question

Im painting my calipers with a caliper spray paint from pepboys. the guys said the calipers are held on by two bolts...all i have to do is unbolt the calipers, clean, spray, then torque the calipers back on...is it this easy?? dont wanna take them off and have problems...

WHAT IS THE TORQUE FOR THE CALIPERS? DO THE BRAKES NEED RE-ADJUSTING AFTERWARDS?

thanks guys, didnt mean to make it seem like its an emergency, just dont want to break anything...

I am guessing they are like any GM Caliper. There are two pins on the back, either a torx bit or an allen wrench will take the pins out. Then you have the brake line. That's it. Cake!

Yes, if you take the brake lines off, you will have to bleed the brakes. Just mask them off and paint then where they are. Don't know the torque specs, just make sure they are tight. Don't stand on your ratchet and jump up and down, but make sure they're tight.

If you take the caliper off, you DO have to bleed the brakes.

What most people do/did, including myself, is take the caliper and braket apart and mask/cover anything you don't won't paint on, including your car.

The caliper is held on to the bracket by 2 guide pin bolts. The bracket is in turn held on to the spindle/knuckle by 2 bolts.

It's recommended to replace the guide pin bolts if you remove them but at something like $7 each, I just use a good doseage of locktite (blue). The correct tq for those is 23lb/ft. The bracket/spindle bolts are 74lb/ft.

If, for some reason you take the whole thing apart the bolt for the brake line is 30lb/ft.

You really only HAVE to paint what will be seen so it's possible to paint them on the car. I did the first time by just masking stuff off. The second time I changed colors I unbolted everything but the brake line.

to tell you the truth, i've never taken the brakes apart before...the caliper is bigger than i thought...should i paint the WHOLE caliper, or just the part that shows through the rim...

BTW, i saw some painted calipers at the Craig Park picnic today, and they looked awesome...

What is the bracket? i looked behind the caliper, and saw 3 bolts...two bolted to the caliper, and one bolted to the brake line.

I guess i'll find out what is what when i take it apart tomorrow morning then...
thanks for the input everyone...

do the guide pin bolts just sit inside the bracket, or are they threaded...? on most cars, they are threaded, but i was looking at my calipers, and they seem to just sit in there...is this the same on everyone elses car?

Did you grind the casting lines off first? If so, how long did it take?

Should i take the brackets off and paint them as well, or should i leave well enough alone...?

The fronts look good, but the rears you could barely tell they're painted, cause the caliper is so small...

I personnaly like the rears done to and the brackets. I'm chroming my brackets though, what color paint did you plan on using for them, the same as the calipers?

I'll take em off to paint them another color...as long as i think it would look good...i did clean them up, and they have a gold color to them right now. Can anybody give me some combos to go with red???

I think the same color is too much. I haven't decided yet which I'm going to do, but I think either one would look great.

If you sand them or try to polish them, they will corrode/rust. Painting is OK. Just clean them real good with degreaser first, prime and paint. You can sand inbetween paint coats to get it smooth.

painting the brackets black to match your car, I think that would look nice!
