HELP!! Doing this right now....Caliper question
WHAT IS THE TORQUE FOR THE CALIPERS? DO THE BRAKES NEED RE-ADJUSTING AFTERWARDS?
thanks guys, didnt mean to make it seem like its an emergency, just dont want to break anything...
Yes you would so dont just mask off line and paint caliper where it is.

sorry, i misunderstood what you said...do i really have to take off the brake line to paint calipers?
cant i just take the caliper off then mask off the brake line and spray paint it from there??
WHAT IS THE TORQUE FOR THE TWO PINS WHICH HOLD THE CALIPERS IN PLACE??
What most people do/did, including myself, is take the caliper and braket apart and mask/cover anything you don't won't paint on, including your car.
The caliper is held on to the bracket by 2 guide pin bolts. The bracket is in turn held on to the spindle/knuckle by 2 bolts.
It's recommended to replace the guide pin bolts if you remove them but at something like $7 each, I just use a good doseage of locktite (blue). The correct tq for those is 23lb/ft. The bracket/spindle bolts are 74lb/ft.
If, for some reason you take the whole thing apart the bolt for the brake line is 30lb/ft.
You really only HAVE to paint what will be seen so it's possible to paint them on the car. I did the first time by just masking stuff off. The second time I changed colors I unbolted everything but the brake line.

Did you grind the casting lines off first? If so, how long did it take?

I did mine with the rotary tool then a detail sander. Rotary tool I just used a grinder attachment for the heavy lines then hit the whole thing with the drum sander. Polished the whole thing off with a detail sander and they're ready to paint. Now I just gotta find time to paint them!

Thanks.
The fronts look good, but the rears you could barely tell they're painted, cause the caliper is so small...
Should i take the brackets off and paint them as well, or should i leave well enough alone...?

Only if its well enough for you.
I personnaly like the rears done to and the brackets. I'm chroming my brackets though, what color paint did you plan on using for them, the same as the calipers?
Yes red...same as calipers....I could paint the brackets another color to bring them out?? What color goes awesome with red??? I'll take em off to paint them another color...as long as i think it would look good...i did clean them up, and they have a gold color to them right now. Can anybody give me some combos to go with red???

IMO either paint them black or sand/polish them real well to a shiny silver and slap a clear coat on. I think the same color is too much. I haven't decided yet which I'm going to do, but I think either one would look great.

If you sand them or try to polish them, they will corrode/rust. Painting is OK. Just clean them real good with degreaser first, prime and paint. You can sand inbetween paint coats to get it smooth.
painting the brackets black to match your car, I think that would look nice!
