need help on putting 99 vette rims on a 98 Z28
hey people
i just got some OE 99 vette rims
and the rears seem to have too much +offset
the bumpstop (when the car is jacked up) is right on the tire, and when the car is on the ground, it has about 1.5-2" or clearance between it and the rim/tire
so if my rearend squats more than that much, it will start to shred my tires up <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="gr_sad.gif" />
i started to cut the bumpstop bracket off, but i dont have the right tools to do so, properly
I did already bang the inside fenderwell in a good bit, doesnt seem like it would rub against the front of the tire too much
anyways to make a long story short i need help on deciding what to do <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />
should i just buy a couple of 1/4" spacers? (they are readily available today)
or have any of you guys put these rims on, and worked fine without removing the bumpstops or using spacers?
btw these are the 18x9.5" rims on the rear with
275/40/18 tires
thanks

Re: need help on putting 99 vette rims on a 98 Z28
I have the factory 99 C5 wheels on my car, with no spacers.
Front: 17x8.5" 275/40/17
Rear: 18x9.5" 275/35/18
Mine hit the same way when the car was jacked up, but when they're on and the car is down, its fine. No rubbing or scraping yet. As for the tire size you chose, be aware that the 275/40/18s are an inch taller than stock, and will screw up your ABS/TCS, unless you run a tire that is just as tall in the front, which probably won't fit.

Re: need help on putting 99 vette rims on a 98 Z28
thanks
shortly after first posting this, i tried on the driver side
the bumpstop on the driver side, stuck outward about 1/2" more than the passengerside, so just mounting the driver side wheels is a pain, because of the funny angle the wheel is on the hub
but, im gonna go ahead and try those 1/4" or 5/16" spacers today, so i wont have any worries
