Default Gonna buy some 17x11s for the rear got a ?

I want to buy some 17x11s from a friend but I want to make sure they are the right offset first and I don't have my car to test them on. Is there an easy way to tell by looking or an easy way to measure the backspacing. I know there are the 50mm offset thats supposed to fit our cars and the 36.5mm offset that doesn't fit. I'm just not sure how I can tell the difference.

the Tirerack site used to have a diagram on how to measure offset and backspacing...check there or similar tire/rim sites. 50-56mm will work ok.
