I am about to buy a set of nitto 555 for my 2002 SS. My question is will 315 40 17s fit or will I need to stay with 275 40 17s? Will I even need the 315s or a better question may be will my stock 10 bolt take more than 275s. What rim might I need for 315 if they will fit and work?

The very min. width needed for a 315 would be a 10.5 inch rim{11 inch would be better} If you put the 315s on the 9 inch rim, the sidewalls will roll up giving less contact patch then if you were useing 275s. If you try to let air out of the tire in order to get the whole tire to contact the ground, the tire will cup.

At the SLP customer appreciation days there was a guy at our hotel that had 315/40/17s on his Camaro. He told us there was no problem with going to this size. He did spend considerable time researching this and if the wheels he wanted to buy would allow them to fit, i.e. back spacing etc.
Then the next day at the event, I saw several other cars with that size on the car. I was looking specifically because I want to add the biggest possible to the back of my Firehawk.

Thank You for the reply. I was also able to bring information confirming this on a search. I dont know why I did not get anything on search the first time I tryed, probably misspelled something I'm good at that.

i have 315/35/17 bfg gforce kd"s on the back of my car , with roh 17" by 9.5" its lowered and under extreme circumstances ( hard cornering, big bumps ) they rub a little,, im sure if the car wasnt lowered they wouldnt rub at all, they look killer and i get alot more meat to the ground than with the 275 40 17"s so far im happy! just my .02 cents <img border="0" alt="[gruffy cottonball]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_gruffy.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />
