Does anyone know what in my brake system could be causing vibration in my steering wheel when I stop? Coming to a stop my wheel vibrates and when I let up on the brakes it quits. So it has to be something with the brakes. I only have 16,000 miles on my car although it is a 1999, so I am not under warranty anymore.
Thanks,
Dean

Maybe your brake rotors are warped a little. Have you hit the brakes hard repeatly, say at the drag-strip or elsewhere?
That's where I would start looking.

I agree with TTtop, check your rotors. Stock rotors suck I'm having to do mine also and I just crested 16,500mi. with the same prob.

Do your rotors? Replace or turn them?
And yes I did some hard braking the other weekend thru 105 with the Vette guys.
Damn car should be able to handle that, I bought an SS for the handling and it is supposed to be set up for autocrossing or roadracing. What good is all that suspension if your brakes can't handle it?

My 2001 SS does the exact same thing and I have 14k miles. I am sure it is the rotors. I will be changing them as soon as possible.

It's your rotors. Cast iron slugs, don't handle heat cycling near as well as they should for this type of car. You can have 'em turned and that will take care of the shimmy for awhile, but if your going to do repeated hard braking (x-cross, light to light drags, etc.), then go with a set of aftermarket discs up front. Slotted rotors are nice to look at, but aren't really necessary.
