taking off front swaybar
is there any problems with taking this off and on to drag race and street drive? like messing with suspension geometry or anything like that ?

Re: taking off front swaybar
The term need is pretty subjective in this context. I took my bar off almost a year ago and have yet to replace it, and my car is a daily driver. Yes there is more body roll, but the car still handles much better than the average sedan.

Re: taking off front swaybar
I really can't understand why anyone would want to remove there sway bar from a daily driver, do you think G.M. just installed it for the hell of it?
Chris, you even said " Yes there is more body roll ", sorry but I just can't see doing it.

Re: taking off front swaybar
I took mine off my daily driver the last time I went to the track and had a slight improvement in weight transfer. After about a Week I had to put it back on. The car will not cut corners nearly as sharply with it off.

If you want to be able to punch it on the street and it not spin the tires halfway down the street, take the swaybar off. If you want to carve corners, leave it on. I know plenty of people who brought their brand new car f-body home and immediately took the swaybar off and have not ever put it back on.
My front swaybar is generally on the car, but I'll say one thing. Between my stiff springs, 17" wheels and low profile tires, and large front swaybar... the car can be a bear to drive on the street everyday. I feel every bump in the road and the wide tires cause the car to wander like there's no tomorrow.
I usually pull the swaybar off when I go to the track, and for a week or so afterwards, I'll run around without the swaybar on it. The car is much more enjoyable to just "cruise" down the highway with it like this. There's a little more give in the front end, so it stays a little straighter without having to fight it, and since the suspension can move independantly, I don't feel every single bump and crack in the road.
With all that said, my formula with lowering springs, 17" wheels and tires and NO front swaybar handles better than it did the day I drove it off the showroom floor.

Re: taking off front swaybar
We're so glad that you have made a point to tell everyone that you would not do it.
Mine is off the front and has been for some while and the car drives fine no problems here at all and I drive it on the street regularly. I don't try to go cutting corners as fast as possible either. If I wanted to go road racing this would be a different story all together but he asked about drag racing.
Lets take the term everyday driving as it sounds, EVERYDAY DRIVING. This is your normal drive to the store or something like that....., NOT driving around a local road track. The front sway bar hurts nothing on a DAILY DRIVER
Now a daily racer as the cars in that link you posted I say yeah keep it but he said daily driver.

Re: taking off front swaybar
The sway bar has little (can't say it has NONE) impact on the suspension geometry. Some cars don't even have them from the factory. It is only there to improve turning performance.
For drag racing, it will "somewhat" (perhaps +0.01 or +0.02...at most) of a positive. It will lower front end weight, thus improving weight trasfer. I would think, that is would also make the rear sway bar seem that much larger (something vs. nothing is a big difference) so the car might launch straighter (just a thought....someone tell me if I'm wrong there....).
For street driving, if you take corners slow and don't exspect to have very good handling, then you are fine without the sway bar.
As many people have said though, WHY would you not want the improved handling. Even if your not pushing it on the street, you will be safer with it on (be able to manuver and avoid accidents). The gains not going to be all that much and the drawbacks are many. If you really want it off, it only takes some 15 to 30 mins to remove and install. Just drop it off when you get to the track and then put it on before you go home.

Along with what others have said here , it is my daily driver, which means that it spends most of it's time on the interstate and primary roads. That said though, even in the twisty stuff there is no possible way to conclude that the car is dangerous as you seem to imply. Don't take it personally thet we don't agree with you.

Re: taking off front swaybar
i removed mine when i put my car back together. it really doesnt bother my daily driver, just as everyone else says-little more body roll. plus if you like strait driving like most, you get the cool front end pick up when you take off. but the good thing about haveing it off on the street; keeps you from being the ultimate road racer and getting umerous tickets

Re: taking off front swaybar
Hey Joe, when you go into work tomorrow will you please turn in a suggestion that we eliminate all sway bars on G.M cars and trucks. We can split the suggestion money and buy some more mods, I know this is going to be the mother load of all suggestions so get it in as soon as possible.
