Do springs go bad? 60k miles?

Do springs go bad? 60k miles? I need springs, don't ask why. My buddy offered to give me his springs with 60k miles on them for free but I'm not sure if they will be fine or if I should just go ahead and buy new ones from GM. It is too much work plus an allignment if they go bad too soon. What would you do?

If you aren't sure, just buy new ones! because it could save you from doing it again.

but....like anything else used, there is a chance they could be defective. Do you know how your friend drove his car? Did he just "drive" it or did he DRIVE <img border="0" alt="[evil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" /> it?
as tmgxray said, is it really worth the risk (how ever small it may be)?

Re: Do springs go bad? 60k miles? Springs will not change "rate" over time (due to the modulus of elasticity of steel, which is a "constant") but they do lose "load". An old spring can sag, but the rate will not change. So, if there are no cracks, etc in you friends springs and you like how his car sits, there is no real problem with used springs (like I said, no cracks and such). If the price is right, give them a shot.
