I'm having issues with my parking brake. About once every 3 or 4 times I pull up on the brake, there is a loud "spring/boing sound" and the parking handle comes completely vertical and does not lock. I put the brake back down and pull up again, it works.
What can be causing this to happen and how do I fix it?

Well your not crazy, my 01 ta did the same thing, I never could figure it out. I replaced all the calipers with aftermarket pieces and never had the problem again. But I'm curious about this one myself. Anyone Know?

The mechanism isn't engaging right. This used to happen all the time on my 98. It also happens if I weakly pull on the brake. I don't know about you but when I pull up on the brake I YANK it. I haven't had any problems with my 00. Pull harder! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_images/icons/tongue.gif" />

This is actually by design. The handle will do this in order to get the center console off. If you push the button in on the handle when pulling it up, and if you pull really hard this can happen. Don't worry, you are not causing any damage to the car, just push the handle back all the way down, and pull it back up a little slower, and you should be fine.
