Inside of calipers are rusty looking, questions...

Inside of calipers are rusty looking, questions... Took the calipers off the car for polishing, if you look in the 2 holes where the pistons reside there seems to be some orangy rusty looking diposites. Is this normal from water and such entering the area? Can i take brake part's cleaner to it and clean it out? After i do so should i relube it by pouring some brake fluid into it? Thanks.
Re: Inside of calipers are rusty looking, questions... The caliper pistons are steel and will rust. It is normal. I would not use brake fluid or any lubricant around the caliper area. Due to the high temperatures in that area, grease (oil, etc) may "melt" and drip or run into the pad area causing a loss of brake effectiveness. Unless it is really heavy rust (looking like it may rust through...and it should not be anywhere near that bad) I'd leave it alone, brush out the loose particles and change put it back on. If it is severely rusted, I'd get a rebuild kit and new pistons and replace them, though I doubt you will need to go that far. Just my thoughts....good luck!

You can get a scotch bright pad and some Simple Green and doa good was on them. But, it's not hurting anything ...
