Default Koni SA - 4th Gen Front Instructions

Here are the instructions that come with the Koni SA shocks:

With the shock upright:
[+] or Firm = Counter-Clockwise, or right.
[-] or Soft = Clockwise, or left.

It also shows a maximum of 8 sweeps, but I recall slightly over 9 on mine from stop-to-stop... Something like 9 + 1/4 sweeps. My fronts are set at 4 + 1/4 sweeps (the 1/4 is probably insignificant) from full hard, which is just about in the middle. The rears (4th Gen) are set 1/2 turn from full soft. So far, I like the ride, but I just switched from my 16" to 17" wheels and I'm starting to think that I might want to soften up the front by one sweep.

My personal opinion is that those instructions SUCK! I've been around a while and am no dumbass when it comes to cars, but those instructions made me feel retarded.

I've never run the fronts on "full soft", but I've seen guys on here who have.

I've ran my fronts on full soft before. It made the car feel too mushy, I didn't like it. Now I got my fronts on 3 sweeps from full soft, and full soft in the back.

Yeah, they're like hieroglyphics. I bought mine from Sam Strano and talked to him before I put them on, just to make sure there would be no nasty surprises (like mounting the adjustment window toward the fender well, instead of where you can actually reach it).

If anybody knows specific adjustments that will do this, I would like to hear it. The guy who is installing them hasn't worked with these specific shocks much and doesn't know what setting I'm looking for. I don't have many tools or a place to work on my car right now, so I would like to be able to call him with the adjustment info. It will be difficult for me to find time and a place anytime soon to readjust them. I'll be busy working and moving for the next few weeks. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Just leaving the shocks set to the softest setting will still yield a firmer and more controlled ride than stock decarbons. You won't feel those bump stops anymore.........

Um..... I always found that "+" = more and "-" = less.

Where specifically I run my shocks isn't necessarily any indication of where you like yours. They are adjustable so you can monkey with them. Further, I have to be a little careful about letting out all I do and know because my information is what sells parts. If I told everyone everything publicly only their conscience would have them buying from me. Too bad too many folks don't have a conscience.....

My customers should feel free to contact me to discuss settings and setup. I'm quite swamped lately, and it might take me some time, but I'll get back to you.

It's great that I'm getting this many responses from this thread. Too bad the thread is 3 months old and the car with the Koni's got stolen!

ps I don't think conscience has anything to do with it. It's about competitive prices and service. Refusing service isn't gonna get you any more orders. Plus your "classified info" is all around these threads anyway. Ever heard of a search???

And yet here you are on the internet asking for the very advice I give my customers as part of the sale. I'd say *that's* service and the other places gave you just what you paid for. And about the searching.... you can, but it's not detailed and situations vary. Again, I'll point out you asked, which folks do not have to do when they buy from me.

Bottom line, my customers get a number of things: Shock setting information. An explanation of how the shocks work and what happens when you go up or down on rebound (or bump if you have DA's). Alignment settings and much more.

So sure, you can shop for the cheapest price in the world, and you get the shocks--and that's all.

That's the key to any of this after-market stuff we do- part of the price you pay is for the knowledge, courtesy, and service you get AFTER you buy it. Without the proper application, you're throwing away your money.

I wasn't knowledgable enough to talk/buy from Sam when I got my DMS springs, but when I do get ready to "fix" my suspension issues, whether that be getting shocks to go with the DMS springs or shocks to reuse the stock springs or a whole new setup, I will talk to and buy from Sam. He has proven he is an expert and has gone out of his way to help people who haven't bought anything from him. That kind of service should always be valued and rewarded. Even if he were a few bucks more then some discount warehouse, I say its worth it. You can tell a lot about a person by how they treat people that they have nothing to gain from.
