caliper question
i ask bc i noticed a tear in mine when i changed my rotors/pads last weekend.
It's not a seal for the brake fluid. BUt it is a dust seal to protect the piston walls.
As the brake pads wear, the pistons move out of the caliper. If the walls of the piston get corroded, and you push the pistons back into the caliper (like when you install new brake pads) brake fluid will leak past the inner seal.
www.installuniversity.com has a tech article on a caliper rebuild.
