I am also going to be doing this same install tomorrow when my UMI torque arm comes in. Keep in mind this is a pretty old thread but the main points were to get the torque arm parallel to the drive shaft and have 'all' the bolts torqued down correctly. A new tranny mount bushing would most likely be a good idea if your car has some miles on it. My next mod will also be tranny and motor mounts I think. I'm just really worried that the body mount torque arm isnt going to clear my exhaust. The stock floor pan crossmember doesn't fit at all anymore. It needs to be lowered an inch at least to clear the y-pipe.

yea, I have already did the poly motor, transmission, and factory Torque Arm mounts as well as all the suspension mounts. People complain about noise transmission, but when you go poly you really either have to live with it or get factory mounts again.

PM me or reply here on how it goes for yea, since I also am about to do this.

What kindof noise is it anyway? I can handle like a whine from syncros or vibes through the body. But rattling from exhaust drives me nuts, sounds like a mini jackhammer. Is that what poly mounts cause is the mini jackhammer noise?

The noise that I was referring to was the whine from syncros, and the other associated road transients. I don't have any jackhammering or anything like that.

Geese, brings back memories. You guys probably won't have the problem I have. It doesn't happen to everybody. Needless to say, I'm still having this problem. The way I can describe it, is I'll get a hard thump if I bump the throttle good. Its as if there are small amounts of slack in the transmission gears, drive shaft yoke, and rear end gears that when one side spins, the other end slaps hard. Also, I get the same annoying *** clunk when it shifts into 3rd at low throttle. I've learned to use the right amount of throttle to not let it clunk. I usually have to let off right before it shifts.
From my understanding, I've always had the problem but I never noticed it. I wouldn't of noticed it because the stock torque arm was absorbing the shock. Now shock is transmitted to the chassis.
Permabuilt was telling me it's in the transmission gears since it clunks from the 1-2 clutches to the 3-4 clutches. I'm really not concerned about it anymore. It's more tolerable with the loose 3,200 converter.

Don't worry about it until you have the problem. Chances are your all good.

Back from the dead!

I'm having the same exact problem to the T.

It clunks when I shift a certain way, going over certain angled bumps, and hitting bumps at lower speeds. UMI Adjustable tunnel mounted torque arm. Hopefully the solution isn't just to live with it

Banging from shifting is often caused by either (i) a bad transmission mount, (ii) bad U-joints or (iii) both - check these first.
