Default What holds the parking brake arm in?

I was trying to adjust my parking brake and as it turns out it just pulls out of the backing plate. I'm referring to the arm that sticks through the backing plate that has the cable attached to it.

One side works greater and the other side no worky. I checked it all out and when the E-brake is pulled the drivers side doesn't move at all. Does the arm wear out or what. It seems that when I pull the handle the arm jumps out of pocket rather than expanding the pin inside.

Has anyone had any experience with the parking barke assembly?

I'd appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks!

LOL. I count on that thing for emergency use and use it in general.

I'm not quite ready to lose it yet.
