Default Lower Shock Mount

I have new springs and shocks waiting for install. I have the back already done, that was easy. The fronts are off my car, but on one of the assemblies I can't get the top nut off. I've tried with the spring compressed and not, just to loosen, but it's spinning the shaft. Anyways, the one I have apart already, how do I get the lower shock mount from the shock so I can transfer it over. I already have two perches waiting, so this is all I need and I can put the car back together lol.....it's bugging the hell out of me. I tried prying it with a big screwdriver but I bent that! good times lol

As far as the nut that for the upper perch, you might just have to compress the spring and cut the upper perch off since you have new ones waiting to be installed. When I changed shocks the nut was so rusted I had to chisel it off.

When you say "lower shock mount" are you talking about the lower A-arm or the spring perch?

pic for reference

Had the same problem with one of my shocks when I was upgrading. I was able to get the driver side apart, but the passenger side was rusted pretty good after 95K miles. I have a set of impact sockets that are used to get off rusty/rounded nuts, and they work really good by cutting into the nut, but there was no way to stop the shaft from turning. I ended up chopping the nut off with a die-grinder & cut-off wheel, which ruined the threads on the shaft, but the shock isn't worth much at this point anyway. If you don't want to mess with the rusty net, you could probably get a new spring seat from GM for cheap.

The spring perch can be tapped off with a hammer. Just gently tap on opposing sides until it comes loose. There is also a metal piece that has to be tapped off at the end of the shock body.

I'm not worried about the nut right now, I'm just trying to get the lower shock mount off, don't know how. I might go see if the parts store carries these, but i doubt it

I would think the sping perch would be a stealership part. Like I said mine just came off by tapping it. Have you tried it?

Are you replacing the original deCarbon shocks or another brand? As soulless has said, it should slide off fairly easily... I didn't need the metal seat for my new Konis since they came with new ones, all I needed was the plastic (phenolic?) spring seat from the old shock.

EDIT: Got any way to attach a pic of your shock?

I have the Blistein HDs, came with the metal seats as well, I just needed the lower shock mount/perch thing that I circled in the pic (not a pic of my stuff). I'm at work now but I'll try tapping it down and see if that works. Do the seats just tap off as well? I asume I'll have to do that to slide the lower spring mount all the way off..

That is exactly right. Not to be an ***, but I wouldn't pry on it anymore either.
