Default e-brake

so i was parking today, and when i went to pull the emergency brake up i hear this loud popping and the e-brake doesn't work anymore...is this a snapped cable (there is no tension while pulling it up)

also, my brakes have been squeaking as of late, would this have caused it to have snapped?

any help would be appreciated

Checking for a broken cable is fast, just look under the car for a hanging cable. Doubt that that would be the cause of you brake squeek.

so the next morning when i parked for work i set the brake like nothing had ever happened and it worked fine...talked to a friend and he said his brake has popped quite a few times really loud like that and that his has worked fine also, so if may just be something that's common and there's nothing wrong with the brake itself...which is good because i didnt see anything broken or hanging

mine has done the same thing a few times, and i can't find anything wrong with it either.

my only guess is that its wearing out. i say that because i have to pull the lever all the way to the top of the travel to hold the car.

I've had this happen to me a few times as well. I just pull the ebrake slowly to make sure it is gonna stick. I'd be interested to know what the cause of this is.

It sounds like the ratchet is giving out in the park brake control
