Default C5, Z06 brake kit?

Will a C5/Z06 front and rear brake kit fit on my 2000 T/a?
Thank you.

Not sure but as far as I know, the only difference between regular C5 and C5 Z06 breaks are that the Z06's have red powdercoated calipers and are more expensive...

this is true

what you need is,

the custom bracket to fit C5 calipers and carriers.. from UMI.. or i think trackbird makes his own... there are also other companies out there which i can not name because of this non sponser deal... but if you search on google you will find them..

Heres an idea of what i would like to do.

Put these on the front and rear (compleat kit)

http://www.corvettegarage.com/produc...brake-kit.html

I would think i would need new front and rear mounting brackets for the Z06, not C5, right? anyideas?

Hello,

We offer the front kits or the brackets needed to do the front conversion but not the rear. If I can help any with the front brackets please ask. Also below is a link with some information on the conversion.

http://www.umiperformance.com/c5conv.aspx

Hope that helps!

That would work great, but could i use the Bigger brakes instead of the 2 piston brakes, could i use the 6 piston calipers with the same mounting brackets? used on the new Z06.

u will have plenty of stopping power with the C5 setup with a good set of pads. the C6 Z06 setup will cost a fortune and i seriously doubt u will ever be able to push the rest of the car where u will notice the difference. for show is the only reason the C6 Z06 calipers would be better. for the rear, we already have a bit much rear bias, no point in upgrading except for looks.

The GM C6 Z06 Corvette Brake Kit for the front and rear only costs less than $2,000, and i dont consider that a fortune esp when it comes with
(2) 6 piston front calipers
(2) 4 piston rear calipers
(2) 14 inch front rotors
(2) 13.4 inch rear rotors
(12) front brake pads
(8) rear brake pads

Is there something that i am not geting? I would like more stopping power, with this brake kit, no other brake kit.
Will the C5 (4 piston front and rear) caliper brackets fit C6 (6 piston front, 4 piston rear) calpiers?

Well stopping power is a result of traction first and foremost. All bigger brakes do for stopping power is make the tires lock-up sooner. The advantage of bigger rotors in themselves is heat capacity and brake fade reduction which enables you to retain max stopping power longer before the brakes fade. Add more traction and larger rotors will then give you more stopping power because they are effectively longer levers.

u will have to custom make the brackets im guessing for the front, and for sure for the rear to get that stuff to work. the C5 rotors are only around 13in, so that is a full in difference. and nobody makes stuff for the back.

another option is the Porsche brake setup

edit: after looking at a site that sells all sorts of brake stuff, looks like the C6 Z06 stuff will work with the c5 conversion brackets, as long as u have the right 18in wheels. however $250 for front pad changes seems like it ain't worth it. if u want bigger rotors, look at the Z51 stuff. but needs 18s also.

Keep in mind, with the C6 Z06 brakes, GM got cheap and made only a left side directional rotor, meaning the right side will be on backwards. Not to mention every piston has individual pads (meaning if using all 4 factory calipers you'll have 18 pads to buy) not to mention the aftermarket hasnt been in a hurry to jump on making replacement parts. You dont need aftermarket rear brakes on an F-body because these cars already have too much rear brake as it is (thats the case with the LS1 cars)

If your looking to upgrade, the smartest choice would be the C5 brakes, or a Stoptech kit.

I used my stock calipers but with C5 abutment brackets. The C5 abutment brackets use larger bolts than the stock brackets and most the brackets require the larger bolts (the only exception I know if is the LG brackets).

the rears are already overkill, just put decent pads out back. and go ahead and upgrade the calipers, stronger and a bigger pad selection to chose from

I believe C5 rear brakes have the same specs as our rear brakes. The only difference has to do with the offset of the rotoe I thought.

I was also going to mention the no true left rotor issue. I believe I've heard stories of the factory Z51 rotors cracking during street driving even.

My plan is to go with the C5 front kit at some point in the near future. Only need 17" wheels vs. the 18" wheels you need for the C6 Z06 package.

It distributes the braking power more evenly over the rotors surface with the larger number of pistons.
