I go to a local parts chain in Melbourne, FL where they special order brembo slotted rotors that have the cryo treatment and zinc wash. After 40K miles they started to warp -- due to uneven torque on the lugs (Tire Kingdom!!!) after the last tire replacement. The stupid locking lug nut was always Half the torque of the other nuts. $1.88 to replace it with a regular nut and it should end the problem. I'm checking torque ever 50-100 miles after this last service. Oddly, the torque was uneven the first 2 times.
I'm at 67K now and put the 3rd set of rotors on. I went with cryo wagners today -- $74 each vs. 100 for the brembo. no zinc wash so I got the 1500F $3 black paint and shot them inside and out. In Melb., FL we have to worry about corrosion because of salted sprinkler spray. Ceramic AC Delco pads again. The old ones were about 1/2 worn, but my brother the ABS engineer told me that 1/2 left is less than 1/2 life since the last part of the pad is some type of heat-sync compound and mass is the best guide for reliable brakes going fast. AC Delco came with new shims and silicon grease. $48.
Got Chinese for the rear rotors and ac ceramic. they are still factory ones with 67K. Any leads on tricks/tips when removing the drum?
