If you cut an angled wedge out of the GC part you will weaken it some. Since the adjusters are pretty low anyway, it makes more sense to build up the ring on the axle. This would be my guess.

no, you're right. I was just trying to go the weldless route

Since the wedge piece will have weight on it, I think all it needs is to be tacked into place. I don't believe fully welding it is neccessary. In fact, you could probably just make it and run over to a muffler shop and have them add a few tacks just to make sure it doesn't tip over or rotate on you.

here's a pic of what I did. I cut it because I really didn't like the idea of it just setting on there with lots of freedom to tilt. I measured and the GC lower portion is 30mm and only needed 10 mm deep cut on the driver's side. I then angled this to go to the full rear position. Here's a pic.

That doesn't look like a clean cut at all. What did you cut it with? Is it functional?

Yeah it's not the cleanest cut. I cleaned it up a bit between the pic and install. I used a 4.5" angle grinder with a cutting wheel on it. It just gives an idea of how little needs to be cut in order to fit. With this cut, the bottom lip of the lower black portion rests on the axle and the vertical portion of the cut keeps it from spinning on inside the perch on the axle. I'll try to remember to take an install pic.
