Default torque arm question

i asked in the lowered ride height sticky thread but got no reply...

so...i bought the kit on the bottom. I have yet to install it.

i was wondering if there is anything else that will be needed after this. I was told that I needed a torque arm, but saw nothing in the lowering thread. I was also wondering if i would need any sort of camber kit after doing this. any input would be great. any install tips too. Thanks!

Trish! Why are you buying suspension stuff before coming to me I can sorta help you with car stereo stuff, but suspension stuff I can definitely help with. Please tell me you didn't get the sportlines....

You don't need a torque arm but you do need shocks, and they won't be cheap. Koni's or revalves are pretty much all that will dampen the pro kit correctly.

Welcome over here by the way

You should be ok then for a little while hopefully. The KYB's I heard can't dampen stock springs correctly. If you install them and ever get sick of the bouncy ride, talk to Sam Strano. He can set you up with some Bilstein revalves (not HDs), or you could get Koni single adjustables, but I think revalves are good enough since I'm even using the same Koni settings for my Strano springs as I did for stock springs.

The reason some say a torque arm is... when you lower the vehicle it will change the pinion angle of the car. The pinion angle will then effect traction, so depending on what you do with the vehicle this may or may not pertain to you. But adding a adjustable torque arm will allow you to lower the vehicle and re-adjust pinion angle for maximum traction. Once the vehicle is lowered and the relocation brackets are installed, if you still experiece traction issues then the torque arm will be what to look into next.

So is it a must, no, but will it help and be useful in the future, yes

Hope that helps!

I meant to say won't dampen the stock springs, never mind aftermarket springs.

ya i know what a torque arm does i took chassis fab ;-) but thank you very much. i was just wondering if anybodyelse ended up needing them but i dont see <2'' of a drop makin that big of a difference, and was hopin the panhard/control arm brackets were sufficient, i guess its good im still basically stock

hmm...well we'll have to see then bry huh? but if they dont work it shouldnt be to hard to get rid of them after, no big deal. guess i shoulda asked first...:/

thanks guys...sounds like im all set then for now

Going from sportlines is like one opposite extreme to the other. Sportlines are just way too low and cause you to ride the bumpstops, with a lower springrate than the prokit. With a good shock and good spring you would probably feel a world of difference compared to your sportline setup. You can't go wrong with stock springs though, I used them for racing for 3 years and they work very good.

Trish you will be in decent shape for a while. Your setup is still better than a lot of people's that I've seen on here. Those springs will work fine in the long run with a good shock.

The hose mod? That would be if you wanted to lower your car with stock springs. The rear drop with the prokit will be fine.

Yeah and about the torque arm, try the setup you have. If you get bad wheelhop, I would actually change shocks first before going to a torque arm.

Trish, do you think you will have that setup before you come back to MA? If your at any local meets, mind if I drive your car so I can see what KYB's actually feel like? You can take mine for a spin after. I have a strano spring/koni setup with 400 rwhp

Is the feeling of having no top enjoyable?

I have the spec 3+ clutch with upgraded master and slave. Just have the stock shifter though. I'm probably keeping it stock too. I'd probably need a rebuild before I went with an aftermarket shifter
