I've never painted my rotor hats, but I think you want to avoid painting the wheel mounting surface.

We did my cousins rotor hats..originally we used caliper paint, I forgot the name but it comes in a little can with a brush. We did not like the sheen of the gold color so we ended up using regular gold enamel paint, krylon with a clear coat, about 5 coats of paint and 3 coats of clear. Clean everything with brake cleaner first and rough the surfaces with some sandpaper....1 year later they are holding up great...

I used some Krylon high temp black spray paint on mine. I cut out a circle from cardboard to place over the hub and then a bigger piece with a hole to lay over the brake disc surface leaving only the area in between exposed. It worked fine. They've taken some real heat and held up well.

It beats laying down tape.
