Looking good, UMI makes very high quality pieces. I have their Rod/Rod PHB and Poly/Rod LCA. Do your LCA's make any noise?

That's interesting. A friend of my father's has rod/rod LCA's and hates them, says it rides too rough and is noisy. I wonder why the difference

i've been reading here over the past few days, and saw it mentioned somewhere that the major reason for the clunking when using rod ends is because the incorrect mounting hardware is used.

the mounting holes on the new LCA's may be made to work with metric hardware, and when used with standard hardware (or maybe the other way around), even though it's pretty close, there is a little bit of difference that leaves some play in there. over time, it will get worse because the mounting hole will end up wallowing out due to the slop, and cause more stress on the rod ends, causing them to wear out quicker as well. once the rod ends start wearing out, water can get inside there a lot easier, and will start to rust/oxidize them, causing the squeakiness.

that's why i bought a set of replacement mounting hardware along with my LCA's, so i could be sure to get the correct size. i haven't received them yet, but when i do, i intend to replace the existing hardware & LCA's with the new stuff, and will make sure the rod ends are greased really well to help keep moisture out of them. i'm probably also gonna try to think up a way that i can enclose the rod ends from the elements with some type of flexible material, to keep the grease in, and the water/dirt out.
