i cant for the life of my figure out how to remove an oem inner tie rod, i slid the boot out of the way to expose the joint and i see that the outer part of that hub has 2 flat spots, like for a wrench. but it would be a 1 1/2" size which i dont have handy. I have a trashed rack im pratcicing on befor ei do the one in my car and I tried channel locks but nothing budged. Is there a trick to it? im lost with this.

I used a crescent wrench to break it loose. It was tough, like it had loctite or something on it.

1BADAIR... thanks, i honestly didnt know there was a special tool. when i get back in 4 years maybe ill buy one lol.

mitchntx... thanks for confiriming what i thought. i was basically sure they just screwed in but i was trying to remove one from a parts rack i had loose, so using the force needed just made the rack move around my garage floor, haha. once i got it braced, i broke it loose. I could see what appears to have been thread lock on all the ones i removed. I got the replacment installed in my car already and all looks good, next is an alignment(eventually) its already so off from being lowered and the tires are already shot.

heres a pic of the old tie-rod... this happens when you balancer comes off at the 1000' mark and 100mph...

just go to vautozone or oreillys and rent the inner tie rod tool. you put a deposit down and get your money back when you return it.

When i posted last, the job was all done already.

A few weeks ago i did the autozone thing for the balancer installation tool. off course it didnt fit right on an LS1, but after some work with a cut off wheel and grinder, the tool works perfect, but i gave up on returning it, it was only 30 bucks. lol. and i had to use it twice since then. today i gotta return the torque wrench i got as well.
