Default Hard brake pedal - NEED HELP

We recently bought a 69 camaro from a friend. He had the car sitting for about 10 years in the garage. Today we took it for the first time on a test drive. The brake pedal was very very hard. It felt like the car did not want to stop. The car has drums all way around - the brakes and drums look good. Does anyone know what the problem could be?? Any info would be great

if its not manual brakes then its either the brake booster or a vacuum leak. if it was air in the line or master cylinder then the pedal would go to the floor.

Manual drums. My '68 had 'em.

When I had that car it was almost impossible for me to jump in any other modern vehicle and drive smoothly. First time going for the brakes in the newer car usually involved my passengers flying toward the windshield.

The '68 took *forever* to stop even with new shoes. Scary stuff now but I didn't know any better then.
