Default What happens if the rear brakes fail?

Is all brake pressure lost or will the others continue to operate? Picture the rear caliper breaking in two pieces on an LS1 F-body for this scenario.

On the flip side, can anything be done to prevent total loss of braking in the event of failure? If I remember right on my 5 liter Mustang, a brake proportioning valve would serve this purpose in addition to the adjustments.

Cars since the 60s have had dual-reservoir master cylinders. So if you lose pressure (via broken line, or caliper failure) you will still brake with the other pair(2 calipers on each of the 2 reservoirs).

Sweet, I don't feel nearly as bad now about my rear calipers ground to fit 15x10 Prostars. If they break, I'll replace them with some drag rears. Thanks!
