So with all this talk about SOLIDS and POLY, solids seem to be the way I want to go. With that said, what is the best brand of solids to go with? I noticed Spohn was the only brand name mount mentioned...

if you plan on updating your k-member eventually, I'd say spahn since their solids match up to their k-member as well as replacing the stock pedestal on the current k-member. So you could replace the motor mounts and then down the road swap in their k-member. You just become forced into using a spohn k-member at that point.

There are generic brand solids out there though that use the current pedestal. Summit racing has them if you look up motor mounts.

I posted on this thread a year ago about how i still have stock mounts...well i just changed them out to poly cause im going to be throwing alot more power at the car. the stock mounts with 32k on them of hard driving with high hp and many 6K launched on sticky tires looked like they were brand new when i took them out and let me tell you i which i would have left them. Not because they make noise or anything...have not drivin the car yet. I dont think someone could pay me enough to do these on another car ever. i am very experianced and do all my own work on my car and these mounts were the BIGGEST PITA EVER. getting the driver side to line up took forever.

I am wondering what it is like as far as a comparison from someone who has swapped out low mileage good condition stock mounts to poly and how the vibrations/ noise etc compared? Please be honest if vibes increased noticeably (even just a little) just post that if you honestly couldn't tell a diff .. you get it.



Most I know have swapped out to poly from busted cracked mounts so its not a fair comparison.

I have poly and really notice very little over stock but they did go in with the new motor so not an apples to apples comparison but the 238/250 cam does rumble.. It shakes no worse than my 230/234 cam in my 346 on stock rubber MM's but now my headers don't bang....... My poly tranny mount on the other hand came out after 2 weeks...

I have run Prothanes for about a year or 2. Love them. I recently bought solids though. I like the 10 pound weight saving and the more room to look at stuff under the car. Those stock pedestal mounts make everything tight around that area. Haven't driven on them yet, but Im looking forward to it.

After I got poly mounts for my engine and tranny, my shifter stopped going ludicrous whenever I give the car gas.

Here is a pic. The rear off the oil pan is raised off my custom made cradle and the motor is trying to tip backwards as it sits bc its no longer balanced. There is also more room in between the front of the oil pan and the k member. These definitely raise the motor by an inch above polys.

I'm seriously thinking about solid mounts for my 98 t/a. The main reason I want them is to keep my tsp true dual system from wiggling it's way out of the band clamps. The only exhaust hangers that the system has are steel straps wrapped around small rubber bushings which don't allow the whole system to flex when the engine flexes.I'm thinking if I can keep the engine from flexing this will decrease the amount of movement in my exhaust, what do you guys think?

I can give you an apples to apples comparison. Low miles stock ls1, swapped to poly motor mounts from good rubber. I had done this in advance of putting in long tubes, though I'm still running manifolds. It's one of the few places where poly can be advantageous, as it will retain some compliance unlike solids, but it will keep the collectors from banging and activating the knock sensors if you have LT's.

Does it shake more? Hell yes.

should I install some of these parts first before putting in the solid motor mounts or does it matter? I have a built tranny, headers and sfc that I haven't installed yet.

Solids and Ebay/cheap stainless headers do not go good together. i can barely, and I mean barely tweak it enough to keep the driver collector off the floor board

Bringing this up for more opinions. Anyone else want to share their experience with either? I'm going to be putting in my LTs and really want to do the mounts.

Get the new motovative mounts if your wanting to run solids, they state they don't raise the motor like spohns.
