Sometimes the nut gets stuck to the shock mount. It's a common problem wtih a lot of cars. I'm still using my stock mounts and I changed my shocks/springs combo twice.

I would definitely replace the mounts when you change the struts. They are rubber and wear out, better safe than sorry.

You can pick the stock ones up from Autozone for about $45 a piece.

Would there be any reason so go with aftermartket ones? Like KYB? The ones at my work (Advance Auto) are Monroe ($85/each) or KYB ($75/each)

I haven't seen one particular brand to be that different from another. I would go with what you can get at the best price

The shock mounts on these cars hold up much better than the front strut cars I have seen. If you use the large washer below the shock mount and the dogbone piece above the rubber is not that stressed. As with all rubber it does age though. I did not change mine out. (100kmiles) They looked good.

How ironic, I just installed my new Koni shocks, Strano Sway Bars and new brakes all the way around, this last weekend.

This is the reason why some of us end up replacing the strut mounts.

After 74000 miles, my old shock nuts weren't rusted.

I ended up replacing the old strut mounts anyways because I bought them
ahead of time, just in case my old ones were rusted. I didn't want to
be in the middle of the install and have to deal with ordering those parts.

Hope that helps.

I hope you replace the strut mount, large washer and dogbone piece in that case.
