Default popping sound in brakes

lets say i'm at a red light, car is in gear, i'm holding it with the brakes, if i push the pedal a little more it makes this popping noise coming from the wheel well up front. anyone know what this might be? could the calipers be going out?

take them apart and check all guide pins and pad sliding surfaces for sticking and wear. re-grease with syth. brake lube and re-assemble. Check all spring clips and mounting hardware, rotors and whell bearing.
