Default strengthening a Convertable

I'm looking to buy my first f-body, and want a LT1 white t-top T/A, but recently came across a local place with a black 97 T/A, black top and black leather, with a 6 speed, and it looks real nice. However, i didnt want a convert because i have heard they arent as strong.

How much does a Roll Bar help? I dont want a full cage, since it will be my DD, and i am not looking for lots of power, about 300rwhp maybe.

If you're not going over 300, which is pretty much near stock, then you don't need to do anything... I think UMI makes subframe connectors for verts of that year, that just bolt or weld in. That should cover it. Verts are built with subframes anyhow, so they are reinforced. But the more important question, is only buy the black one if it's a good deal. If you really want a white t-top, then I'd wait. Although I'm a sucker for triple black m6.

Check my site for pics of a drop top rollbar. Custom made moly. At the 6 base points, it goes through the floor and is welded to the subframe connectors and those are welded to the unibody. No panels are moving yet and it's been 1.4's in the 60 foot and mid 10's so far. You could do this or just GOOD subframes. Good subframe support should have came on these cars. It's always eye popping to see how much it stiffens up once they're welded in.

ok, cool, thanks for the help guys...

as for why i dont wait for a white one, because i crashed my jeep last friday, and only have a rental untill next wednesday, then i NEED a car. I dont wanna rush this too much, but i would settle for the triple black M6, its marked at $6995 at a small dealer with 96k, and i made an error, its a 1995, not a 97

Yeah, they are rated around 275 hp, I think that is at the crank. But I've heard that is a low estimate. My 93 LT1 was a bit over that stock. It also depends on if it's got ram air or not.
