Default QA1 shock question (with pictrue)

Is it normal to have an O ring on the shaft of the shock? Seems to me like it should be inside the end of the shock housing, but all four of my shocks had lose O rings on the shaft like pictured.

they may have just put that on there as a wiper to keep dirt off the shaft contact area

BINGO!

All the qa1s I've had over the years have had the "O" ring on them.

I don't see how it could wipe the shaft more than once. Once the shock compresses the O ring stays at the end of the shaft pressed against the nut. To actually wipe the shaft the O ring would have to be secured inside the shock housing, so it stayed stationary while the shock compresses and extends. But if your qa1's had the O ring floating like that too it must be normal, thanks for the feedback.

I know my front O-rings get pushed back down by the 2 factory bump stops I installed on each shaft in the front.

blake culp : On My Dirt oval Racecar the o-rings on the shocks are used to see how much the shafts are being compressed into the body of the shock. That is the only reason that I know that they are used for
