Default Cross Brace Help

What good does the cross brace do? I just installed PPC headers and Y-pipe and neither the stock or SLP cross brace will fit back onto the car. I am just thinking about leaving it off. Any suggestions? There just is not enough room to squeeze it above the y-pipe and the pipe is too fat for it to go below it.

You could use flat washers to lower the brace, you'll also need longer bolts. The bolts should be 8mm fine thread, about an inch longer then the stock bolts should do the trick.

Thanks, Dark Age. But what good does this brace really do. From the looks of where it attaches, it don't seem like it would do very much to help stiffen.

Here I go again like a broken record, if G.M. could eliminate just one small washer they would...now you don't think G.M. installed the tunnel brace just for the hell of it do you? JMO

To me it looks like a make-shift driveshaft loop. Maybe GM knows that the U-joints will go if any power is applied to them? It is not in the best place for a structural brace, so I saw no point in keeping it when I put on my new exhaust. I have been driving around for more than a year without it and have had no problems.

I make one that clears the SLP Y-Pipe is about the same weight as stock but far more rigid.
It's there to keep you from catapulting your head into the pavement. It is an item that can attach to SFC's a make the car more rigid.
But those bolts are being asked to do more than they can handle so I would go a size up and back them up with nuts.
Email me if your interested.
