Default 1LE springs

Anyone running 1LE springs? If so how do you like them?

What shocks would be better suited? SLP Bilsteins or Bilstein HD?

thanks,
Chris

Chris,

I'm not sure what the actual spring rate is for the 1LE springs. There seems to be confusion as to the correct spring rate and what the spring rate was for each year. I have no first hand experience with the 1LE springs, but if it is the stock Z28 or SS springs, I'd suspect that the SLP Bilstiens might work for that application. If it is stiffer than stock springs, I may consider the Bilstien HD's (given a choice of those 2 shocks). But, I'm sure someone with more information about that spring and shock package than I have will drop in and lend some input (I hope).

Just my thoughts....

I'm assuming that you are looking for a street driven application? If you are drag racing, I'm not so sure you want the HD's (or either one), but if you are looking at 1le springs, I'm guessing you want to improve the handling.

The actual 1LE springs are 360lbs/in. If my springs ever show up (that's a big if), or if I can find another set, I'll let you know how they handle with the SLP Bilsteins.

Check out 1LE.net for the part numbers. The spring rates on 1LE's changed with the years and who was doing it (GM or SLP). My 2002 1LE came with dif springs up front, but the rear part number matches stock z28 springs. When GM did 1LE's, they changed both springs. I think the 360lb's are fronts for 2001-2002 1LE's.

I really like my 1LE springs/shock combo. I also have 1LE bars and the car is much better then it was when I had my stock V6 suspension on. I only regret I didn't do this right after I got the car.

My car came factory equipped with the 1LE package. I love the way it handles. The ride is good, firm, crisp and tight. I highly recommend them.

I have 1LE springs with Strano re-valved Bilsteins up front, and LG Motorsport re-valved bilsteins in the rear. The car handles WAY better than the stockers did. I really need to go to an AutoX event to see exactly how well the car handles now. I can take curves like no tomorrow now though.

I set up my autox car using the 1LE front springs and a set of Shocktek revalved and adjustable bilsteins, Sam strano gave them the valving specs. They are great. The 1LE rear is too stiff for autox, the stock spring is better. The 1LE is better suited for roadcourse work.
