that's a good thought....i didn't actually think about shimming the tranny down, i was concerned with the DS loop itself...

can anybody think of any reason i couldn't do that?

I would try bending it up first. Put a jack under there and a 2x4 or something to reach the loop

well the car is 100% disassembled, i can pull it off and work on it on a workbench...

...but i don't think i wanna do that so much. i know it would crack the powdercoat, which in itself isn't too bad, but it would allow rust to have its way with the bar...plus i don't know if it's a bar, or a tube. if it's bar stock, i'm not going to be bending on it

As nasty as is looks in the pics you'd never know. Just paint it. With that said how about grinding or cutting part of the loop off where it is rubbing.
