I have a 4 channel, 3.42 gear complete rear. I pulled it from a totaled TA. I never saw the mileage. I was gonna convert it to a three channel but if it works out better for you, I will take $200 for it and buy this three channel. I'm not lookin to step on toes but if it works good for you two guys and myself......
Thanks Mike... Actually looking in the DFW area... should have been more specific...
I also need to check as to whether or not mine is a 3 or 4 channel....? Not sure about the 99's... Mine does have ASR/ABS...
No prob. Willing to take reasonable offers on mine and meet half way for either of you. Ready to get this thing out of my garage. I only pulled this one to switch to an S60. You can verify on my build thread. I drove the car for 100-200 miles before pulling this rear. Worked great, no noise.
Also note the ad states that it does not come with the backing plates, break lines, sensors.
That's correct. The four channels are reluctor wheels on each wheel in case your vehicle one wheel peels. The three channel system is for braking only. (ABS) It is possible to add the center reluctor to a four channel rear and drill for the sensor. It is also possible to add axles with reluctor and sensors to a three channel rear.
Not to hijack the thread but are 4 channels only with traction controls?
You can also tell them apart by looking at the rear end itself. A 3 channel has one sensor at the top of the diff case. 4 channel have 2 sensors, one at each rear wheel.
Found a local guy who has a couple of cores that he has replaced all bushings, completely gone through the rearend, fresh gear oil, additive, cleaned up and painted $650 + my core.... Work is guaranteed! He's an older fella who does this as a hobby... Has several NICE 1 Gen SS's, Z28's... As well as a 4th gen SS.... Sound like a good deal?

Someone will probably stick their head in here and kill me for for this....but yeah, that doesn't sound too bad. There is the whole, " never put another 10 bolt in it" crowd out there but the fact of the matter is that alot of people can't, or simply don't want to, spend $4-$5K on an upgraded rear. I will say that for much less money, if you have the time, tools, and know how (or the patience to learn) you could do the same thing yourself. I look at it this way...if I was spending my time and money refreshing 10 bolts to sell, I would probably ask for something in that range as well.
Also, does "completely gone through" mean new gears and diff?
All bearings, shims, crush sleeve, etc. Can be had for around $200. The money comes in the time to set it up properly. I still believe that is a little high. If the clean up and paint is excellent I may go for that price.
Thank you Men for your feedback.. It is much appreciated. If I were planning on keeping this SS forever I would most certainly invest the capital to upgrade to a Strange 12 bolt or something the like... I flip these cars like pancakes BUT like to fully enjoy them while I have em. This car is VERY nice... Clean, runs, drives excellent (other than vibration, rearend noise). Probably one of the cleanest that I have owned, and I have owned several. You both seem to share the same opinion with it being a "decent" deal... The entire suspension has been upgraded... The painted rearend will add to the value of the car when I eventually decide to sell.... Again, Thank you for taking the time to respond.
