Default Texas Drag Strips

Hey Guys,

I am looking for some info on any tracks in Texas open pretty much year round. My car is finally about done, but Bandimere here in Colorado is closed for the season. I would like to make a few passes to see what she can do. Are there any strips that have a test & tune date during the week or weekend?

TIA,
Keith

We're not too far off from you here in Amarillo, plus your tune would be about the same since our air is pretty crappy...close to yours! The track isn't open all year round but there is one more race coming up the weekend of the 25th and 26th. Test n tune is the 25th and a race the 26th but they'll let you run time only's on race day also. 1/4 track, not the nicest facility around but it's a decent track. Google Amarillo Dragway and the info will be there. They may even be running a tnt the 18th.

Next closest would be in the dallas area, like Texas Raeway but it's 1/8 mile, Texas Motorplex 1/4 but not sure if they are open. What's closer than Dallas would be Thunder Valley Raceway in Noble OK [south of OKC]. It's only about 3 1/2-4 hours from Amarillo, closer than DFW, check out okthunder.com and they'll have a schedule. It's a real nice track. They race tnt in Nov and the 1st 2 weeks in Dec. on Sunday weather permitting from noon till 5. Just be sure and check the weather, it can get COLD that time of year. They aren't gonna prep the track too much for a tnt, and we went one time and it was cold [in the 50's] so the track wasn't biting good. Our 9 sec race car [slicks] was skatin' all over the place!

I would go to Noble OK on Oct 31 or Nov 1 whenever the tnt is bc that is ford vs buick and I bet the track will be decent because there will be alot of ppl there, just get there early and make sure you can pass tech!

Yea, it has been raining a LITTLE bit! But it's supposed to warm up this weekend [hopefully]. I wouldn't drive to any of these tracks without checking the weather first. But Thunder Valley will have good bite as long as it's not real cold out.

unless you are coming down to Dallas.
But if the weather is good, some of the tracks stay open thru Jan.
They did last year, then we took 2 months off, and started up again.

You will have to re-tune the car for our climate.
but is also a little far from you to come down and run.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Since I will be trailering the car down a couple hundred more miles is not that big of a deal in the long run. I think I want to at least go down to Dallas or more south just to improve the chances of good weather. So far Texas Motorplex in Ennis or SAR in San Antonio looks pretty good. What are you opinions of them?

I know that my tune will need to be adjusted for down there, but since I have a SD the chances should be pretty minor. Put in the restrictor plate for F1-R, add some 104, drop the timing a little, and things should be good to go.

SAR....doesn't know what track prep is. But its good to get out and still be able to race and get a good baseline as to what your car is capable of.
