Default For The Love of the Game!!!!

Just like the title say's ........this guy is commited!

Mesa State College lineman has pinkie amputated

Trevor Wikre was willing to forgo a finger for football.

The Mesa State College senior offensive lineman fractured his right pinkie so severely in practice on Tuesday, doctors told him he needed immediate surgery. His season and career would be finished.

Instead, Wikre told them to amputate the finger. He's now missing a good portion of his pinkie.

"I'm just short one," Wikre said with a chuckle. "But this game means that much to me. This team means that much to me."

Here is the Full Story......

LMAO. He wont be going to the NFL. Whats gay about it. Is he is still wearing a huge cast over his hand. If he would have just had a surgery. He could have played with a cast and still had his pinkie. wtf

He probably thinks it'll be a "cool" "football story" for his future kids.

Come on now READ it all before you judge........

"Doctors informed Wikre he would need surgery to insert a pin and that he'd likely be out for up to six months as the finger healed. He couldn't bear the thought of his career ending so abruptly, so he decided to forsake the finger."

He may not make it to the NFL but he wants to be able to finish his LAST season strong. And he can't play this weekend because of the cast but will be able to start the next game after that without the cast.

True, I didnt "read" it all, but I saw all the info on ESPN. Do you know how many lineman play with casted hands/arms etc? You dont think he could have played with a cast? ha.

I'd rather like to have all my fingers, then play a few more games with my no name mesa state football team. JMHO. They are 5-2 though

The guy sounds like an idiot. I agree. Opt for surgery, wrap the hand up and play.

How? Hurt pinky Tuesday. Have emergency surgery Tuesday night. Cast Wednesday. Back to practice the following Monday. It said he'd miss this Saturday's game anyway.

"This was the best way to get me back out there," Wikre said. "There are worse things in the world -- a pinkie is not that bad in my mind."

Key word "Healed".

I read it. It would take 6 months to fully heal. Cast the hand up and play.

Exactly it would take 6 months to HEAL. And thats awesome that you can read its the understanding what your reading thing that I more concerned about. If you break your leg it has to HEAL properly in order to use it properly again. If you break ANY bone it has to HEAL in order to properly work again. IT WAS GOING TO BE A SEASON & CAREER ENDING INJURY. His bone was totally broke off, pertruding out of the skin..... this is not a sprain or a hairline fracture, lol

But anyway's the reason that I posted this, like I said earlier, was because it was interesting.....not condoning the fact that what he did was something all of us should consider if it were to happen to one of us......... but that it was just simply pretty crazy.

Um.. the pinkie wouldnt need to be healed to play fball.
So after surgery it would be put in a cast correct? PLAY WITH THE DAMN CAST ON!! He's a lineman! Not a WR.

I'm pretty sure that if he could've had it put in a cast and played he would have, and nobody would be talking about this guy. Kudos to him for putting his team first.
