Default Tach not working

I'm going to post this in here since i'm not getting any responces in the Tech sections.... If anyone has any Idea why the tach may not be working please let me know, it is getting on my Nerve.

I have a 99 Camaro and I had the 5.7 short block swapped to a 6.0 and now the tach is not working. Anyone know what it could be?

When I turn the key on it moves with the speed odometer but when The car starts it just sits on 0...

Sounds like you arent getting the tach signal. Could be a lose wire or a bad sensor.

Do you have EFILive or HPTuners? You need to find out if you are getting any signal first - If not, check those connections and devices.

Have you checked the fuse box?

Have you had the Passenger side Kick panel out lately? I pulled the ECM when I did my swap because it was easier that way, and to do so you had to disconnect the PCM harness from the Body harness.... Check the connectors behind that panel that come through the firewall, possibly a loose connection. Do the other gauges work?

I had a similar problem and my crankshaft position sensor went out, it's at the back of the block.

Cam sensors and wiring cause the vast majority of the tach issues we hear complaints of after swaps.

Is the cam sensor located on the back of the intake? If so I have to pull the intake to get to it.

The cam sensor is UNDER the intake. You have to pull apart the whole top end to change it.

The crank sensor is behind the starter and requires that the starter is dropped and removed.

You will be able to check the cam and crank sensor with EFILive if you can find someone locally that can come help.

If you have any friends with a tech 2 would be your best diagnostic tool for your problem. You could perform a gauge swipe to make sure the gauge is good. check to see if you have a tach signal at the DLC connector and if you do you can make sure the address is correct because they use a serial wire to feed multiple gauges other than the oil presure that runs directly to the gauge. If no signal at the DLC then I would be looking at the cam sensor, one make sure it is plugged in and no damaged wires if everything looks good, check the wires cause the map sensor uses the same plug so check the color of the wires to make sure they are on the right sensor which it is probably not the case because the car is running pretty good I guess, but why not cover all your bases after having to pull the intake off which isn't too hard or a lengthy process. Been there done that a few times on a number of cars so just a few things off the top of my head I know some of them were mentioned, just went down the list of things I have found to find out what the problem was etc...GL!

Well I changed the Cam Sensor yesterday and the tach still is not working. I did check the plugs and the wiring and all seemed to be good. I even cleaned the connerctors with electrical contact cleaner to besure the connections were good.

The car does need to be re-tuned because it does have and idoling issue, the motor rev's up when you put it in and out of gear and sometimes when I go to start it, it will backfire a little through the exhaust. All I do is turn off the key and turn then motor over again and it will fire right up. It is a H/C/I car
