you will need to use the disk that came with the computer.
System restore disk.. This disk will have the OS and software configured the way you bought it...

When you do the install.. make sure to tell it that you dont want anything saved.. Wipe the drives...

To be fully safe, and if you have really sensitive information on the system, you will want to make sure you have that restore disk, and do a complete format of the drive... low level format.. Then do the installation

+1

Your basically talking about reformatting to erase everything. Then a system restore disk which is basically Windows, + drivers/and other bundled software.

The restore disk will walk you through all this...

Keep in mind that many **** companies nowadays no longer ship their systems with a disc. Sometimes you will have to look for a partition on the HDD which contains the program to restore (sometimes this requires you to press a F# button booting up). Other times (which sucks), you will have to call the company and order restore CDs.

if you want to truly erase any info on the drive, delete everything and write and rewrite the entire drive with nothing but 1's and 0's about 100 times. Around there the drive should be completely cleaned.

Or if you just wanna do it the quick way then just reformat.

you dont need to do it 100 times.. LOL
if its a like say 80gb drive, writing 1,0's to it will take around 4 hours.
depending on your system and program you use...

but unless you have like top secret ****.... you will probably be good with a low level format.
Not everyone has recovery software, and unless the guy you are selling it to is not trust worthy.. LOL

untrue, the only true deletion techniques are DBANing.

HP's and COMPAQ's come with recovery partitions since about 2 years ago, reboot F11 and it'll restore itself.

Luckly you had restore discs! Nowadays you have to make your own, which a lot of people dont realize.
