Which heads should I run? ls6 stage3, are tfs235 with a 100# added for using after market heads? i have seen ls6 headed 408 making good power... this will be 408 with a zex plate... my question is will the extra power the tfs make be eaten by the added 100#

LS6 stage 3 w/ opened up runners. From what I have seen the best of the best can make them heads flow more than you need to go that fast and not worth the weight. Call the guys at RPM in Lewisville.... they know how to get the car to run the 5.4-5.5 number for that class. On a dry kit too. Zex plate is good btw.

I made 481/464 on ported 799's (LS2 heads which are just like LS6 heads) w/a 240/244 grind. There is more to be had though. Look at all the guys making well over 500 hp w/ AFR, ETP, and TFS heads.

TFS also has the "as cast" heads. They seem to flow near their more expesive CNC heads, but at a more reasonable price. The downfall and reason I didn't go with them is the need for aftermarket rockers.

If the choice is ported stockers plus a 100 shot or just the TFS. That is a toss up. Ya, it'll make more power with the ported heads and 100 shot... until the bottle runs out.

I know Jeremym made 550rwhp and 510rwtq with a 414ci and the TFS 235's with an RPM 6 cam.

Greed you got it a little back wards,I am going to spray both what the question is if i go with after market heads i will have to add 100 pounds,I have read some 408 cars on here making over 500rwhp on ls6 heads.. i think Mike and Mystic answerd that the power i will gain on the tfs heads is not worth the weight i will have to add in return. Its not the price its weight hp difference?

I gotcha. I read true street as in a street car, not a class.

The cars making over 500 hp on LS6 heads have bigger cams compared to cars making that amount with a smaller cam and the better heads. It all boils down to what you want out of it.

There is a couple of threads that lists different 408's, their cam and heads and power made. Some even list their ET. You may find them helpful in your descision.

Stick with stock heads.... just worry a tad about the thickness of the deck. ARP fasteners make a huge difference along with a MLS gasket. It is not worth the weight for 20rwhp. 100lbs is alot of weight.

If it means anything...I changed out from MTI stage 3 ls6's to TEA 235 TF's and picked up 50lbs tq and 40hp throughout the curve.
Haven't got to drive the car since then though.

I'd say it depends on the cost difference between the 2 sets of heads. HP is like CID, more is always better when your trying to go fast. I think you might be talking about my car which has ported 317's on it and made over 500 RWHP on motor and over 750 RWHP on the bottle. Best ET this year was a 5.59@122 in the 1/8 mile on the MT 275/60 drag radials. My heads/cam/intake manifold/TB/plate set up and headers will be up for sale as a package soon.

BTW, I would ditch the Zex plate and get a Speedtech plate.

Don't the truck heads have larger runners?

How soon are you talking? i am about to purchase all you are selling except cam, because eric at hk already spec a cam for me.. but contact me!

The money difference is about $600 between stage3 and tfs.. is not a cost issue its more weight over hp.. I will not be cheap on my build just careful on the choice.. i dont want to pay $2500 for heads and have the added weight eat up my hp gain!

All of the parts are available now. I also have a Mezier electric water pump and a Griffin radiator with an electric fan and hoses. You would need 1/2" head studs to use my heads.

I know what you are saying... you are right. I was just thinking that the advantage of the TFS heads is a larger runner..... other than that the weight doesnt make up the difference. I would do your heads... what size runner are they btw? Your car has a proven combo... and I know what size cam Erik is suggesting....

Is Thurman (iirc) going Solid Roller? HKE cam's are typically 248/256 or 244/248 on the hydrolic motors.

I don't know what the runner lengths are but I do know these heads get it done. Numbers don't mean **** and you of all people ought to know that. Performance is what matters.

i agree with that.. hell for the cost diff of the heads u can get a bad a$$ kit and make up the power diff with just spray alone...... but if u still want dyno numbers the get the tfs but i honestly dont think its all that worth it... i like my ported 317's just fine and left money in the bank for other stuff...... hell my numbers are through a ls6 intake.
