The real money is also NOT in the civilian market.
I use to work next door to the place in Victoria that made silencers. They got raided and closed down for awhile. They got in a lot of trouble. As far as the original poster....congrats...you just made the Homeland Security watch list.

That was my thinking also, and not just Home Land but the Atf. Those to organizations dont play around either.

What are you going to make them with? I think that would be a greater hurdle than your HOA. Unless you are running a storefront, the HOA will be none the wiser.

you have to get approval from the hoa to get an ffl thats pretty homo. why? if its a just a business on the side like something you could contain in your garage or in your backyard they wouldnt find out. does your hoa go through your mail? if so it is a felony.....just seems very ridiculous.

Don't forget guys, after you have your Class 3 FFL, which you need to have a good reason to get iirc, it is still illegal to put a silencer on the firearm for any use as self defense or hunting. I'm not sure about for target shooting, etc.

But also, to effectively use an AR silencer, or any supersonic round, you will have to use sub-sonic loads, as well as completely re-adjust many other parts of your rifles if they fire semi-auto or higher. With an AR, you need lighter springs for it to cycle correctly.

You will also need to re-sight the rifles for a drastically different round velocity (reads: significantly more bullet drop AND greater moa for a round traveling at a slower than optimal speed)

and... even though many other people have stated these things, please let me remind you that:

According to NFA of 1934

Possession of, improper transfer of, improper use of, unregistered sale or manufacture, and so forth (basically, anything to do with a silencer with people that aren't FFL 3's and dealers) result in fines of $250,000 and 10 years in federal prison.

FYI, there is no such thing as a class 3 FFL, class 1,2,&3 refer to the tax an FFL has to pay to import, manufacture, or deal in NFA items. you do not need a FFL or a class 3 SOT to own or make a silencer.

form1s and form4s have a place to put the reason you are getting it. you can put "all legal purposes"

it is not illegal to use for self defence and hunting also (across the board)

Hey, if that's the rules, go for it.
I remember looking into silencers, and you had to have an FFL, and at least during the gun ban (1994-2004) you had to own a Title 2 receiver, which meant you had a Class 3 SOT.

I remember reading that the noise suppressor section of that ban was renewed, meaning it was illegal to have them installed without the aforementioned.

I didn't know you could put "all legal purposes"... that seems too simple. lol.

Thanks for the additional info. If I am mistaken, I would like to know for sure. If you have links to official info on this, I'd love to have it... the 1911 is just waiting for a suppression system.

just go to the ATF website and there are several sections with lots of info. the site is not the best to navigate FYI

you currently do not need any licence or permit to own or make a silencer.
if you want to make one you just do a form 1 and pay the tax and when you get the papers back you can make one. if you want to buy one you just order it to your FFL/SOT and send off your form 4 w/the the tax and when it comes back you go and pick it up.

if you want to make them w/o paying a $200 tax on each one you need to get an 07 FFL and then an 02 SOT and then you can make as many as you want tax free. if you ever lose the SOT or FFL you will need to sell them or transfer them to you and pay the $200 tax for each one.

The company I was referrring to in Rockport is Jet Suppressors. I do not believe they were ever raided by the ATF as cited above.
